THE LAUNCH!!!
On Monday 10th August we had our CANstruction Launch at school assembly. It was great! It was good to be able to finally let everyone know exactly what it is we have been preparing over the past couple of weeks.

Everyone in the CANstruction group had a job to do as part of the launch. This was true teamwork, coordinated by MRS MCEVOY and everyone helped each other to ensure all aspects were covered. It was great to have our mentor HAYLEY RAFFATI and ICT coach JUDY GRAY attend also.

SIMRAN opened the launch with a very informative introduction which explained to the school community exactly what CANstruction is all about. We think this was important as most people have never heard of the project before.

MILLIE was in charge of creating an entertaining, yet informative, visual presentation. She chose to use ‘Windows Movie Maker’ to do this and incorporated some great CANstruction images with slides explaining how CANstruction works – all with a soundtrack of “Can-Can” music.

LACHY talked about the theme for CANstruction 2009, which is "My home, Australia" and gave a brief summary of the structures we were considering building. These included Ned Kelly’s famous helmet, a Golden Circle can and Sam the Koala.

ADAM and KASUNI explained about the role ‘Planet Give’ plays in the CANstruction project. This is a very important aspect to CANstruction and they let everybody know how they can be involved by accessing the ‘Planet Give’ website and voting.

TYLER, DARREN and CHARLOTTE talked about how our school community can directly help our CANstruction project by each child donating one 400-420g can. They explained that these cans will be used for us to practice our structure, used on building day in our final creation and at the end of CANstruction will be donated to the Salvation Army bushfire appeal. They also showed posters which they then distributed to each classroom and placed strategically around the school to remind everyone to bring a can.

Well, if the school community had never heard of CANstruction before, they certainly had now! We think our launch was very entertaining (the images of CANstruction creations caused gasps of amazement from everybody) and very informative. It definitely got people thinking about what it is we are involved with, asking questions about it and bringing in their can donations. We can’t wait to show them the final product!
